Pipeline Locations

Probed, Located, Depth Determined and GPS Mapped on Entire Pipeline

We offer a pipeline location service that takes the work out of complying with government safety regulations.  When our work is completed you will know exactly how deep the cover is over your pipeline and have a detailed map that you can use to prove that you are in compliance.

We send out a crew with hand probes, electronic measuring devices, GPS equipment and good boots.  They will walk the pipeline from start to finish taking a GPS reading every 10 meters.  At that point we will determine how deep the pipeline is by hand probing to the top of the pipe.  We then move on and repeat the process regardless of how long the pipeline is.  This gives us the location and elevation of the the surface of the ground and the depth of the pipeline.  Our equipment and extremely accurate.

While the project is underway our landman will visit with the landowner.  We distribute your advertising materials while questioning the use of the property over the pipeline.  We determine the type of equipment passing over the pipeline, the weight of the equipment, the type and depth of plowing, the type of crop and any other important details that you need.  We confirm name, address, phone number, and email address of the landowner.  All of this information is entered into a spreadsheet or database as you wish.

Mapping is provided of each property by gathering property line data and entering it into your copies of the Ontario Base Maps.  We overlay satellite imagery at 1:1 resolution.  Other details are added to the maps as determined by your office but we suggest that we add a chart of all probe points on the individual property.  This chart will include a metric and imperial measurement of the depth along with the probe point (shot point) number.  We show the start point of the survey and end point of the survey on each property.  We title the map with the landowners name, lot and concession, township, county and company landowner file number for cross reference.

The importance of this information is obvious.  We have conducted this project for a major pipeline in Ontario.  During the course of this survey we uncovered situations that required immediate remediation.  We contacted the landowner and restricted his access to the surface above the pipeline.  We negotiated crop losses with the landowner for loss of use of the land.  The company installed snow fence to prevent the landowner from accessing that area until remediation could be completed.  Personal contact with the landman always provided smooth negotiations.  We follow up annually with all restricted properties landowners and calculate new damage claims.
